It is now common knowledge that skilled STEM workers are in high demand. With the energy industry looking for new, talented people to help facilitate the energy transition, RWE organised a knowledge exchange day for several MBO schools on 12 October.

It was one of our core pillars in the tender for Hollandse Kust West VII (now OranjeWind): ensuring sufficient workers equipped with the right knowledge and skills as part of realising and operating the offshore wind farm. RWE included this objective in the Communication & Dissemination programme for OranjeWind and organised this day on which it brought together various MBO courses in the Netherlands as part of its efforts.

Workforce of the future

The day started at Noorderpoort in Delfzijl, after which we made our way to one of our locations at Eemshaven. There, we brought together various MBO schools from all over the country, including Noorderpoort, Alfa College, ROC Tilburg and Techniek College Rotterdam. During the event, we discussed the possibilities of integrating new & existing technologies essential for the energy transition into degree programmes. While it’s essential that we know what everyone is already doing, it is also crucial that we know what work is yet to be done. By exchanging knowledge, we can help train the workforce of the future.

Following this, RWE gave a tour of the Eemshaven power plant to give the schools an up-close experience of how we facilitate the energy transition and to share our plans for the future. It was a tremendously successful day that once more underlined the importance of working together. Moreover, it was good to see that MBOs are keen to work together with businesses to future-proof our education system.
