First OranjeWind Symposium provides insights into system integration

22.05.2025

The first OranjeWind Symposium was organized with 100 guests from the energy sector, government, and research institutes. During the symposium, the latest insights into system integration were shared.

Over 100 invited guests from the energy sector, research institutions, and the Dutch government participated in the inaugural OranjeWind Symposium. At this annual symposium – part of the OranjeWind Knowledge programme – knowledge gathered about system integration during the development, construction, and operation of the OranjeWind offshore wind farm is made available.

The morning featured presentations from speakers such as Olof van der Gaag and André Faaij, focusing on the state of the energy transition in the Netherlands and the role system integration has to play. In the afternoon, parallel sessions were organized by various universities participating in the OranjeWind PhD programme, delving into specific themes of system integration, such as spatial planning in the North Sea, demand steering, and developing flexibility on the demand side.

"With OranjeWind Knowledge, we are building a unique and extensive knowledge network. Today, this entire network came together to share insights and reflect on the challenges our sector faces," says Bas Jansen, Program Manager of OranjeWind Knowledge. "Our goal was to inform people and inspire them to tackle the challenge of system integration in a holistic way."

During breaks, attendees could enjoy snacks and drinks while exploring various exhibits, including a hydrogen-powered trailer by Alfa College, a VR experience of RWE's Eemshaven battery, and a hydrogen car. The event closed with comedian and singer Roel C. Verburg performing a song about the day's events.

Blueprint – The OranjeWind Technology Report

During the event Blueprint, OranjeWind's technology report, was presented by Bas Jansen to Olof van der Gaag. "This report describes the latest developments and technologies involved in OranjeWind," said Bas. "For example, it includes an in-depth article about an inertia battery in Moerdijk. Additionally, we provide insights into the development of TotalEnergies’ Zeeland Hydrogen Project, one of Europe's largest electrolysers." The report will now be published annually and is available on our website.
