On 13 June 2024, RWE signed the Dutch Wind Apprenticeships Covenant, a joint initiative launched by MBO schools and the wind energy sector to guarantee apprenticeships for MBO students and help reduce long-term labour market shortages.
On 13 June 2024, Michiel van Rij, Country Lead Offshore Wind Development Benelux, signed the Dutch Wind Apprenticeships Covenant on behalf of RWE. By committing to this joint initiative between MBO schools and the wind energy sector, participating companies guarantee that they will offer apprenticeships for MBO students and bear the long-term investments needed. By joining the initiative, RWE will effectively contribute to solving labour market shortages.
Increasing demand for engineers
The Dutch wind energy sector is growing fast, and its growth is only set to accelerate, with more and more wind farms coming on stream. These developments bring with them a need for more qualified workers, and RWE has launched several initiatives, including through the OranjeWind Knowledge programme, to reduce current workforce shortages. Ongoing efforts include developing future-proof curricula with various educational institutions to ensure that education matches the needs of the energy sector.
MBO joins forces with the business
Signing this covenant marks the next step in our journey. The covenant was spearheaded by the industry association NedZero and commits us to bearing the long-term investments needed to offer apprenticeships to talented MBO students, such as the training and materials needed to work safely at sea. We will also guarantee apprenticeships and continue our efforts to cooperate with MBO schools.
