Activists have entered RWE's site at the Eemshaven power plant uninvited to demonstrate. This is not allowed. RWE recognises the right to demonstrate but does not want this to take place on the company premises because it is life-threatening. The protesters have therefore been asked to leave the site and to continue the demonstration outside the site. The activists have so far not complied. The police are at the scene and have addressed the activists on this matter. The activists have been requested both verbally and in writing to leave the site. RWE is acting according to protocol and cooperating with the municipality and the police in this situation. The company hopes that the activists will consider their own safety, listen to the request and leave the site peacefully.

Climate neutral

RWE has a clear sustainability strategy, which is set in the 'Growing Green Strategy'. We invest 55 billion euros in tomorrow's green energy world and the company has a clear goal: to be climate neutral by 2040. We are responsibly phasing out coal and solar energy and large-scale wind farms, both onshore and offshore, form the basis of the climate-friendly power we generate in many countries around the world, complemented with storage systems, flexible generation and hydrogen projects. Our motto is: Our energy for a sustainable life. Read more about it at rwe.com.

Update 29-03-2024 12:00pm

RWE is happy to report that the activists left the company premises voluntarily and peacefully, i.e. without police deployment. Moreover, the company is relieved that there were no injuries or deaths, as the activists were on the coal mountain, among other things, and this can create life-threatening situations. An assessment has taken place and the police have left the site. RWE thanks the municipality and police for their efforts and hopes that any future demonstrations will take place outside the company premises from now on due to safety concerns.
