Today RWE received a letter from the Dutch ngo Milieudefensie asking for a clear CO2 reduction pathway until 2050.

RWE has very ambitious climate protection targets. Between 2012 and 2020, we have already reduced our CO2 emissions by 60%; by 2030, we will have reduced CO2 emissions by at least 75% (compared to 2012) and by 2040, RWE will be climate neutral.

RWE’s reduction targets include all greenhouse gases and cover our own operations as well as the entire value chain. Specific 2030 targets of RWE have been reviewed and certified by the renowned Science Based Targets Initiative, a global initiative of WWF, UN Global Compact, World Resource Institute and the Carbon Disclosure Project. This provides scientific confirmation that RWE's strategy with a clear focus on renewables, storage and hydrogen is in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Recently RWE presented it’s Growing Green strategy. We will be investing 50 billion euros gross in this decade in offshore and onshore wind power, solar, batteries, flexible generation and hydrogen. We’re expanding our own capacity in these areas to 50 gigawatts.

RWE was among the parties that designed the Dutch Climate Agreement and we’re working in alignment with a number of partners on the execution of the plans. Where relevant and possible we work with the government and others on speeding up the expansion of renewable energy production in the Netherlands.

At over ten locations in the Netherlands RWE produces electricity, sometimes combined with heat. We operate multiple wind and solar parks, gas and biomass/coal plants and we’re developing several green hydrogen and battery storage projects as well as additional wind and solar parks throughout the Netherlands. RWE is one of the largest energy producers in the Netherlands.
