The Eemshaven battery project is RWE’s first large-scale battery storage project in the Netherlands with an installed capacity of 35 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 41 megawatt hours (MWh). That is equivalent to powering 3000 EV chargers at once.
110 lithium-ion battery racks are being installed at the Eemshaven power plant. The storage system will provide controllable power from 2025. The system has been designed in such a way that virtually cross-technology connection to RWE's power plants in the Netherlands is possible. The system will be used to balance the energy in the power grid which will enable optimal energy management.
