Every first Wednesday of the month, the evacuation alarm is tested at the Amer power plant at 5.30pm. The test is designed to check that the equipment is working properly. The siren may also be heard in the immediate vicinity of the Amer power plant. The siren is never tested on national holidays and Remembrance Day.

  • It is required by law. In case of an incident, it may be important to evacuate a building or the site and for employees to gather at the assembly areas outside the fences. To alert employees that they must leave a building or the premises, an acoustic signal, a siren, has been chosen.

    Sirens have been placed in each building and in some places outside on the premises. The sound of the sirens placed outside can possibly also be heard in the immediate vicinity of the plant, depending on (weather) conditions.

  • The test is designed to check that the equipment is working properly.

  • During the test, the siren is operated in different ways. At this point, it is checked that the loudspeakers are working and the siren can be heard throughout the premises.

  • Is it the first Wednesday of the month and around 5.30pm? Then you know it is a test. There is nothing going on then. You don't have to do anything.

  • Then there has been a reason to trigger the evacuation alarm. That reason could also be an exercise. The moment employees hear the siren, they safely stop work, leave the building they are in and gather at the assembly points. There they wait for instructions. Staff also take care of visitors to the site.
